Life Straw is a tube about 9.25 inches (23.5 centimeters) long and about an inch (2.5 centimeters). The outer shell of the unit is made of a durable plastic, with a string attached so users can wear it around their necks. the product incorporates mechanical filtration. When you suck on your Life Straw, water is forced through hollow fibers, which contain pores less than 0.2 microns across. Thus, a microfiltration device. Any dirt, bacteria or parasites are trapped in the fibers, while the clean water passes through. When you're done drinking, you simply blow air out the straw to clear the filter. You can down a quart of water in eight minutes using the Life Straw.

Web 2.0 Tool "Dropbox"

The tool that I commonly use on a day to day basis, especially when I need to switch between mobile devices is the "Dropbox" tool. The "Dropbox" tool I can easily use for Medical Terminology for Mr.Man and for Web 2.0 for Mr. Porfido, as well as many others. The "Dropbox" tool I can use it for moving files between computers, or keeping my important files in my ICloud. Also, it helps keep my files mobile, and is very manageable. Using "Dropbox" I can move files such as pictures for a project that is due the next day, and put the project together when I am on the go, and won't get back home until very late. Also, I can share my photos with other classmates that are either working on the same project, or just need my pictures as a reference for looking for different pictures. Using "Dropbox" will teach me to engage with other people excluding myself, and will help me with the lesson, project, and unit at hand. For example, by sharing my files with other classmates I am able to collaborate ideas for a specific unit, and or lesson that we are doing inside the classroom. Also, I am able to gather a diverse amount of information concerning the lesson or unit to generate my own ideas that is not plagiarizing my fellow classmate.

Social Bookmarking Project

What's another way you can organize and store information on your computers?
I can store information on my computer by bookmarking, tagging, and pasting information in certain folders on my computer.
What have you learned from researching the above topics?
I learned that there are multiple websites that are still to be figured out by student like myself.
What do you know now about those current events that you didn't know before?
I figured out that we actually have a law called " The Dignity for All Students Act" which is basically like a bullying law, but it provide the State’s public elementary and secondary school students with a safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying.
What are other social bookmarking apps/websites?

  • Blinklist
  • BlogBookMark
  • ClipClip

Will you continue to use social bookmarking?
To be honest I don't think I will because I am so transfixed on bookmarking on my computer and searching for past sites to look back upon without having to have another site for bookmarking.

Do Now 5/18

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world." ~Mahatma Gandhi

My desire to make this world a better place, is due to seeing people struggling in the streets asking for spare change, or food. Also, I see the difficulty that many families are going through, trying to make ends meet. Lastly, I see not only adults but children in the streets homeless, in poverty, and having to do the most horrific things just to get by in life. Out of the many life goals I have the top two are to open up my own shelter for people that do not have a home. Secondly, I want to be a doctor to help people who have an illness. These two goals contribute to helping my community become one that anyone from everywhere could count on getting a safer environment, a place to live, and good medical attention.

Discussion Questions

Why did you select the sites you subscribed to?
I selected the sites I subscribed to because each one contained information that interested me, and I figured that it would be information that would interest other people as well.
Was it easy to find feeds and to subscribe to them?
Yes and no, because a few times when I was searching on really good websites, it was difficult to find an rss feed on the page.
Which sites were your favorites?
Some of my favorite sites were ESPN, FBI News, and NCAA Men's Basketball.
What else can you use RSS feeds for?
I can use RSS feeds to subscribe to subscribe to my favorite news sources, blogs, websites, and other digital properties, and then receive the latest content from all those different areas or sites in one place, without having to repeatedly visit each individual site.
How likely are you to continue to use RSS feeds in the future?
Possibly, because I am not use to creating RSS feeds, so when I am in need for an RSS feed somewhere in the long run I will create one.

Water Powered Jetpack Weekly Tech. 11

A Water- Powered Jetpack
The Jetlev-Flyer is almost ready for production, and is generating 430 pounds of thrust, and flys forward at 22 mph, and three stories high. The approximate cost would most likely be 130 grand. Li built the backrest out of fiberglass, glued a thick layer of rubber foam and attached a four-point racecar-style harness to lock in. The Y-shaped assembly on the back, as well as the jet nozzles and the handlebars that steer them, are custom-fabricated aluminum tubes. This latest prototype is an extensively modified Jet-Ski with a 215-horsepower engine, which powers an onboard pump attached to it by a direct-drive shaft. The pump connects to a 33-foot-long, four-inch-diameter polyester-and-rubber hose. The production craft, a smaller and lighter pod, will come with a 260hp engine.

Do Now Writing Prompt 5/5/15

Woodshop
If I was a teacher I would apply to our curriculum a course of Woodshop. I think it would be a creative, and more fun way for students to make art with their own imagination. Also, to express themselves in using wood and power tools. The class would meet after school in a classroom that provides space, and a whole bunch of plugs. The students would begin making wood projects, and to start of they would start making small things like jewelry boxes. However, towards the middle of the year, the projects begin to increase in size and difficulty.
Towards the end of the year the students will then have to make for a big project, a real life doll house, consisting of using different power tools and all the methods of cutting wood they have learned throughout the year, while still using their imagination for the designs. Throughout this class, of course, the class will smell like wood, and a few students will feel blisters on their fingers, if they begin to rub the harsh rugged wood. The wood does not sound like anything, however, if it gets sawed, or cut, then it will sound like very hard pieces of strong wood are beginning to be cut.

U.S Military's Self- Steering Bullets Can HIt Moving Targets Weekly Tech. 10

Self- Steering Bullets?
The U.S. military has passed a key milestone in creating self-steering bullets.
Using technology developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), experienced and novice shooters alike demonstrated that they could hit moving targets during a series of tests in February, agency officials announced yesterday (April 27). Military snipers are often faced with having to hit moving targets in difficult conditions, such as high winds or dusty terrain like that found in Afghanistan. DARPA's Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordnance (EXACTO) program was designed to increase snipers' accuracy in these situations, by improving their range and reducing the time required to hit a target.

Shoe That Grows And Gives Poor Kids Footwear That Fits For Years Weekly Tech.9

Shoe That Grows With My Feet?
For children living in poverty footwear is one of the main problems. Almost as soon as a child has received shoes to wear, they are likely to have grown out of the and have to make do with them being too small. The shoe that grows allows children to adjust its size as their feet grow. In bare feet, an innocuous cut or graze can easily become infected or pickup soil-transmitted diseases. The shoes that grows has a flexible compressed rubber sole and adjustable leather straps that fit over the top of the foot and around the rear of the heal. The size of the shoes can be adjusted in three places, and the front and rear straps alter it's length. The front strap has a perforations along it into which a popper is secured, while the rear strap is adjusted using a buckle. The straps along the sides of the shoe adjust the width of the shoe. The shoe will be available in two sizes; small and large and are said to last about 5 years. The shoe is also very light, easy to clean, robust, easy to use, and is able to be compressed. The first prototype of The Shoe That Grows was created in 2012 and the first completed bath of the final design was distributed late last year.

Spring Break Adventure

What I Did in Spring Break?!
Over my Spring Break I did not do very much, nor did I go to any awesome parties that lasted a whole night. My Spring break was honestly boring for someone my age, and for that to happen is kinda sad. But, what I can tell you is that even though I didn't go to any parties I did hangout with the family, and some of my friends. For example, I went and hung out with one of my good friends, and we watched netflix all night until we completely passed out. Another thing is that I made smoothies and cookies for the family.
This Spring Break I also received a job and began working on Sunday from 1-4pm, and had gotten many tips due to the fact that it was my first day. I also babysat two boys until 1am and got 20 dollars, which went straight to buying food with two other friends. I also watched Home the movie with about five of my friends and we all laughed and enjoyed the movie a lot. I also went to the park and played basketball with a couple of my friends from school for two hours. Finally, the rest of my week consisted of not doing homework, eating, and sleeping.

The Backpack-Friendly Foldable GoBQ Fabric Grill Weekly Tech.8

Portable BBQ?!
The GoBQ is built from a fireproof silicone-coated fiberglass fabric that can withstand temperatures up to 1,200 degrees F (684 degrees C).  The fabric is secured into a set of folding legs and easily compacts into the included clamshell-style carry bag. The GoBQ has a hanging, chainmail-like charcoal holder and a rollable cooking grate to complete its packable design. The grill has a 14 by 14in (35.6 x 35.6cm) cooking grate that offers more cooking area. The GoBQ's heat-resistant fabric cools twice as fast as metal, speeding up the process of cooling the grill down enough to transport home. Assuming that everything goes to plan with the grills will come out to about $120-130 dollars and will begin shipping in August.

HIV, Syphilis Tests? There's an App for That Weekly Tech. 7

HIV And Syphilis Tests?

A device invented by biomedical engineers at Columbia University turns smartphone into a lab that can test human blood for the virus that causes AIDS or the bacteria that causes Syphilis. The device attaches to the headphone jack, an requires no separate batteries, The device/dongle contains a lab on chip, and consists of a one-time-use cassette- which has tiny channel as thin as human hair- and a pump, which is operated by a mechanical button and draws blood from an inlet through the channels. Once the blood is inside the device, it meets chemicals that react with the markers for HIV and Syphilis. This testing is called enzyme- linked immunosorbent assay. The device requires little power because the pump is hand-activated, and the current to run LEDs comes from the phones audio signal. The cost for the device would be about $34, and the device can also work with an IPod. Instead of drawing blood from a needle for the two tests, the device uses a finger prick for less pain, and less amounts of blood being taken out.

Mind-Blowing 3D Printing Technique is Inspired by Terminator 2 Weekly Tech. 5

3D Printing ?!

An iconic scene from the movie "Terminator 2," the robotic villain T-1000 rises fully formed from a puddle of metallic goo. From this very scene is where the company Carbon3D received their inspiration to think of their 3D printing technique. Just as the evil T-1000 rises from its puddle of metal alloys, objects from the new printer seem to ooze into existence from the ether. They come out 25 out of 100 times faster than anything on the market now according to the study published in science. This new process to DeSimone and his colleagues is called "CLIP". CLIP places a pool of resin over a digital light projection system, where a special window is placed between the resin and allows light and oxygen to travel through (much like contact lenses). To create an object CLIP projects specific bursts of light and oxygen, in which lights hardens the resin and the oxygen keeps it from hardening. By controlling the light and oxygen exposure in tandem, intricate shapes and latices can be made in one piece instead of many layers of material that usually make up a 3-D printed object.

Charge All Your Devices at Once, Using Infrared Light Weekly Tech. 4

Charging As Many Device At Once?!
The company Wi-Charge envisions having transmitters installed in the future in light fixtures and smoke detectors that beam infrared light to automatically top up devices within a room. Wi-Charges system is capable of converting energy into infrared light, and beam it with a 500-foot area and capture it in a receiver or device, where it converts back to energy once again. If a device maker does not integrate the infrared receiver directly into any device, then the device can easily be charged with a certain case or other dongle. Infrared is an invisible beam of light, and the company wishes to use a method where the beams of lights precisely goes to the receiver using a laser diode in the transmitter and a photo-voltaic cell in the receiver to reconvert the light energy to into electric energy. Although the Wi-Charges system does not arrive until 2016, it will roughly be about $50-100 dollars, and will not be used for all devices except small ones like tablets, laptops, and phones.

Multimedia Blog Posting Sem Pre

Medical Terminology

Medical Terminology is a college based course usually for students who want to work in the medical field in their future. The course features how to use the roots, prefixes, and suffixes of words and creating medical terms. For example, Nephr/itis means inflammation of the kidney. The root word Nephr means kidney and itis means inflammation. Also, Medical Terminology touches upon reproductive systems, nervous system, and the many types of infections and diseases that the body is capable of having. Medical Terminology is the language used to accurately describe the human body and associated components and procedures in a science- based manner.

The educator who is teaching this course is Mr. Maniscalco aka Mr. Man. Mr. Man teaches the course in a way that ensures that class would not leave the room without learning at least something relating to Medical Terminology. Also, Mr. Man makes the class fun by making funny jokes and relating to the class. Mr. Man majors in Physics, Radiation Physics, Radiological Physics, and Medical Oncology Physics. The colleges that he has went to are St. Peter's University, Rutgers, American College or Radiology, and American College of Medical Physics. In his past jobs he was a teacher of chemistry and physics at Cliffside Park High School, and a directer of Medical Physics and Dosimetry,

The Grading Policy for Medical Terminology is quite simple actually. For instance, Formal Assessments are 40% of a grade along with Performance Based Assessments, Also, the last 20% get cut in half with Homework (10%) and Class Performance. The tests in the class are fairly simple if you actually study, and have a good memorization personality. Lastly, Medical Terminology requires a lot of effort, and no fooling around. Furthermore, Medical Terminology is an all around great class to be and gives an outstanding amount of information.

Educational Technology and Copyright Law

 Do Now: 2/9/2015

In the article you learn what is copyright; a United States federal law that protects original “works of authorship” which include literary, written, dramatic, artistic, musical and certain other types of works. Also, how Fair Use, and Licensed Images all tie in to what is known as copyright. I learned that with getting an image online you need to, in most cases give credit to the person who had taken the photo. Also, how using a photo for educational purposes is the best way to not be in trouble of supposedly copywriting.

Hey Guys!

Hey guys my name is Katrina. I am interested in many things like reading, singing, watching TV, and hanging out with friends. However, like every other person I have a few dislikes. For example, I dislike annoying people, winter, summer, and school work. My family consists of 10 people.. yea i know pretty huge huh. Well yeap, thats my life yay.. Anyways, I have a few friends that make me laugh on a regular in and out of school. For example, Tina, Ariel, Kim, Lydia, Joanne, Nico, Tim, Andrea, Milly, and etc. The classes I am taking this year (Junior Year) is Web 2.0, English III, Algebra II, Medical Terminology, Spanish IIII, World History, and Sex Ed. As for my college plans, I hope in going into the Air Force and becoming an Orthopedic Surgeon. As for my plans over the summer, I plan on taking as trip to a few colleges, playing soccer, hanging with friends, go to the beach, and PARTIESS! Hopefully pretty soon I'll acquire a part time job in something medical related so that I could be able to get some money to spend on clothes shopping, and of course help a little the family.
